Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds Prediction
I love the spot for Jeimer Candelario today against Luke Weaver. Candelario has made an instant impact for this Chicago Cubs team going for 4+ hits in each of his first two games with the team. Of those eight hits, three have gone for extra bases, all of them being doubles. He has played phenomenal baseball when playing at Wrigley Field this season.
In addition to those last two games, he also played three games with the Washington Nationals at Wrigley Field and went for four, zero, and five total bases in three games, hitting two home runs. Candelario saw Weaver once earlier this season. He had three plate appearances in their prior matchup and went 1 for 2 with a home run and a walk.
I expect similar results tonight for a few different reasons. Weaver is allowing a .298 AVG and a 308 ISO to left-handed batters on the road this season. The main two pitches he likes to throw to lefties are his four-seam fastball and changeup. These are two pitches that Candelario hits very well. Against right-handed pitching, Candelario has a .408 AVG and .395 ISO to four-seam fastballs and a .302 AVG and .279 ISO to changeups. He also has 24 extra-base hits in 137 plate appearances to these two pitches.
I think there is a great chance we will see Candelario have another multi-hit game. When he records 2+ hits, he has recorded 3+ total bases in 22 of the last 23 games, 4+ total bases in 15 of the last 22 games, and 5+ total bases in 9 of the last 16 games. Climb the ladder for us, Jeimer!
