The Chicago Cubs have been on a tear, winning eight of their last ten games. They made it clear at the trade deadline that they are making a playoff push, signing Jeimer Candelario from the Nationals to solidify their lineup. Since acquiring the “Candyman,” the Cubs have put up a combined 36 runs in two games against the Cincinnati Reds in this series. Will we see another offensive outburst tonight?

Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds Prediction
Chicago hasn’t been the only team scoring in this series. Although Cincinnati has lost the first two games, they’ve put up nine runs. Wrigley Field has been extremely hitter-friendly in this series, don’t expect anything different tonight with Luke Weaver and Jameson Taillon on the mound tonight.
Taillon has settled in nicely after a horrid start with the Cubs. Everything turned around for the 31-year-old veteran in the Bronx after an eight-inning shutout against his former team. Since that start, Taillon has only allowed five earned runs in over 17 innings of work.
These solid Taillon starts are being blown out of proportion. These starts were against the Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals (twice), two subpar offenses. He will face a much tougher challenge against this surging Reds lineup tonight.
Whenever Luke Weaver pitches for the Reds, they win in a high-scoring affair. He’s gotten roughed up in nearly every single start he’s made as he continues to fill in for Hunter Greene, but the Reds' offense explodes and overcomes his poor outing like clockwork. We’ve seen this happen over the years, some starting pitchers are blessed with plenty of run support, and some aren’t. Jacob deGrom won a Cy Young award with a losing record a few years back because whenever he pitched, the New York Mets didn’t score. For some reason, whenever Weaver takes the bump, the Reds' offense shows up. Don’t expect anything different tonight.
This Cubs’ offense is firing on all cylinders right now, and whenever Luke Weaver pitches, the Reds score runs. Don’t overthink this matchup tonight. We’ve seen 51 runs scored in the first two games of this series. Expect much of the same in the series finale tonight.
