These squads actually have quite similar records thanks to a good run of success early in the season for Miami, who currently sit at 58-51, although they have stalled out a bit lately. Texas is 62-46, and while this is no clear-cut winning matchup for them, I love the edge I see them having tonight.
This is Jordan Montgomery's first start as a Texas Ranger after being acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals right before the deadline to bolster the rotation. I love that he is getting the ball at home for his first start to get his feet under him, and I think both his squad and the fans are going to really rally behind their new arm. Monty has been good this year, with a 3.46 ERA and 1.25 WHIP.
Texas has been lethal at the plate all season, period; that is amplified even more when at home and while facing left-handed pitching, both occurrences that are happening tonight for us as well. Jesus Luzardo has struggled on the road this season, sporting a 4.63 ERA thus far on the year to go along with a 1.44 WHIP. I think Texas tries to jump on this Southpaw early and give their new lefty some run support for his first win as a Texas Ranger.
