Cincinnati Reds vs. Miami Marlins Prediction: Will Eury Perez, Marlins Thrive in Cincinnati?
Cincinnati Reds vs. Miami Marlins Prediction: Will Eury Perez, Marlins Thrive in Cincinnati?
Before the All-Star break, the Miami Marlins shut down their 20-year-old phenom Eury Perez. They made it very clear at the start of the season that they wanted to limit his innings early in his career. That doesn’t mean the Marlins aren’t going to use him down the stretch, as they’re sneakily only 0.5 games back of a Wildcard spot. Perez returned to action on July 26th, making two rehab starts before tonight’s return to the big leagues. Will the young star hit the ground running after posting a 2.36 ERA in over 50 innings pitched earlier this year?

Cincinnati Reds vs. Miami Marlins Prediction
Facing the Cincinnati Reds would look much more intimidating if they weren’t currently on a six-game losing streak. Miami hasn’t been playing great either, losing four in a row after making some moves at the trade deadline. Both of these teams are struggling, but both have a chance to still make the playoffs. This series is extremely important for both Cincinnati and Miami, as they are currently only separated by half a game in the NL Wildcard race.
Miami has both the pitching and offensive advantage in this matchup. Eury Perez didn’t just impress his ballclub in his first few months, he put the entire league on notice. Perez dominated in the majority of his outings, and after two rehab starts in Pensacola, expect him to shine against the struggling Reds.
This has been the worst stretch of the season for the Reds, who have lost their last six games. It won’t get any easier tonight, as Brandon Williamson is slated to take the mound. The Marlins are one of the best teams in baseball against left-handed pitching, and they’ll get to face a struggling lefty tonight.
The Marlins opened up a (-125) favorite on the moneyline and have since moved to a (-150) favorite on most books. You’d expect the majority of the bets to be backing the Marlins with this kind of line move, but over 60% of bets and handle are currently on the Reds. This reverse line movement is a great sign for Marlins bettors.
Although Miami’s bullpen isn’t good, Cincinnati has one of the worst bullpens in baseball. If the Marlins get to Williamson early, the Reds will have nobody coming out of the bullpen to slow down Miami. As the public continues to back the Reds to break out of their slump, fade the public, and bet the Marlins on the moneyline. Eury Perez is one of the most underrated young arms in baseball, and the Marlins’ offense should thrive against Williamson and the Reds’ bullpen.
