5 minSan Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction: Can Seth Lugo, Padres Dominate?
The San Diego Padres aren’t winning their division. Ten games back with only about a third of the season left, it’s unrealistic to think San Diego is going to pass the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. There is still a chance that the Padres will sneak into the playoff picture with a Wildcard spot, only three games behind the surging Chicago Cubs. The NL Wildcard race is packed, but the Padres are surging at the right time. Will they make a late-season push for a playoff spot? A win against a division rival tonight would help…

San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction
There’s no doubt that the Dodgers are one of the best teams in baseball. They’ve been playing well of late, winning six of their last ten and two of the first three games of this series. Unfortunately for Los Angeles, Tony Gonsolin takes the mound tonight. Gonsolin has been one of the best pitchers in the National League over the last few seasons, but he clearly hasn’t been himself in 2023.
Gonsolin and his 4.11 ERA will face one of the hottest offenses in baseball this afternoon. Over the last ten games, San Diego is top ten in baseball in runs, hits, RBIs, and home runs. This offense is finally heating up and performing like we all expected when they assembled this “super team” before the season.
Juan Soto went 0-4 last night. This is the first game Soto has been held hitless since July 26th. The best hitter in the National League is finally heating up. Not only is he getting on base in nearly half his at-bats, he’s recorded multi-hit games in six of his last nine starts. The 24-year-old phenom is finally living up to all the hype. Expect Soto to bounce back with a big game after being held hitless for the first time this month.
The Padres have won the same amount of games as the Dodgers over a ten-game stretch, but that doesn’t mean they deserve the -145 price on their moneyline. The Padres are still sitting below .500, and the Dodgers look like they’re ready to make another run at the World Series. Although Seth Lugo has pitched better than Gonsolin this season, their career numbers aren’t comparable.
Seeing the Dodgers at this price is extremely telling; you don’t see the Dodgers as underdogs often, and they are one today against the sub-.500 Padres and Seth Lugo? This line seems fishy, and I want in. Bet the Padres to tie this series up in a “must-win” game as they continue to inch closer to a Wildcard spot. The Padres’ offense has been surging, and they should thrive against a struggling Gonsolin this afternoon.
