I don’t think anyone expected the Baltimore Orioles to be the first team in the American League to hit 70 wins this season. This team has over-performed immensely in 2023, way ahead of schedule in their organizational rebuild. The dangerous young pool of talented prospects are finally performing at the major league level, and after adding a solid arm at the deadline, it’s clear Baltimore is making a run for all this season.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Houston Astros Prediction
Baltimore is nearly 30 games over .500, an impressive feat for a team with the third smallest salary cap. What’s even more impressive is the fact that they’re playing in one of the toughest divisions in baseball. Right now, the Orioles are firing on all cylinders. Winners of eight of their last ten with a four game win streak on the line, will they keep the streak alive against the Houston Astros tonight?
It won’t be easy for Baltimore, who will be facing the surging Astros who are on the hunt for another AL West pennant. Houston is currently three games back of the Texas Rangers and are playing good baseball of late. They’ll be sending Framber Valdez to take the mound after the no-hitter he threw against the Cleveland Guardians last week.
Although no hitters aren’t common, one of my favorite betting “systems” happens to be fading the pitcher in his first start following a no-hitter. It worked earlier this year when I faded Domingo German after he threw a perfect game in June. The public overvalues the starting pitcher after throwing a complete game no-hitter, expecting them to replicate the same success. Any pitcher will tell you that after throwing that many pitches, you aren’t going to have your “best stuff” in your next start. Much like German, Valdez left it all out on the field to complete the outing, and shouldn’t look as sharp tonight.
Even if the Orioles weren’t facing Valdez, this would still be a team I am targeting to bet on today. Baltimore consistently finds ways to win baseball games. They are one of the best-run organization in all of baseball, and have proved that in 2023. You don’t get to 70 wins first in the American League with the third lowest payroll in baseball without near perfect execution. Baltimore is a team you want your hard-earned money to be backing, because they find a way to win more often than not.
With the odds shifting nearly 20 cents towards the O’s since the opening lines dropped, bet the Orioles before your odds get any shorter. Look for Baltimore to rough up Valdez after his no-hotter last week, winning their fifth consecutive game.
