5 minLos Angeles Angels vs. San Francisco Giants Prediction: Can Lucas Giolito, Angles Bounce Back?
Lucas Giolito has not made a great impression on his new ball club. In his first two starts as an Angel, Giolito has allowed twelve runs in only nine innings of work. After making it official that they’re keeping Shohei Ohtani and making a run at the playoffs, this team has gone through their worst stretch of the season.
For the first time in team history, the Angels will have to pay the luxury tax for going over their cap. The fans can’t complain, as the front office is clearly all in, but even with some new additions, this team has struggled mightily over the last two weeks. Tonight, Giolito makes his third start as an Angel. Will he finally show his new fanbase why the Los Angeles Angels brought him in?

Los Angeles Angels vs. San Francisco Giants Prediction
It honestly wasn’t surprising to see Lucas Giolito get rocked in his first two outings as an Angel. First off, he had to face two stacked offenses on the road in Toronto and Atlanta. Secondly, Giolito has never pitched well on the road in his career, especially this season.
In thirteen road starts this season, Giolito owns a 6.15 ERA, with an OBA of .288. At home, it’s been a different story for the 29-year-old righty: he owns a 2.44 ERA in ten home starts this season. Opponents are only hitting .188 against Giolito when facing him at home. Although tonight marks his first home start with his new team, this crazy home/away split has been going on with Giolito for years. Expect him to shock the worst tonight after two horrid starts on the road.
Yes, the Angels have lost seven games in a row, and I’m betting on them tonight. I’m not even high on the Angels; I just like Giolito in this “buy-low” spot as he looks to make his first career home start in Anaheim. I’m also not a believer in the San Francisco Giants, who are quietly only four games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. San Francisco is a great organization, but they have over-performed greatly in 2023.
The sportsbooks and oddsmakers overvalue the Giants in the betting market. This team isn’t deserving of the (-125) opening line they received. Sharps have since steamed the Angels to the betting favorite, with less than 50% of bets but more than 70% of the handle currently backing Los Angeles (per VSIN). Lucas Giolito moving from an underdog to a favorite with sharp splits is exactly what Angels bettors want to see.
This Angels team has been known to underachieve over the years, but they’ve added too many pieces and spent too much money before the deadline for this team to give up. There’s a strong possibility that will be the last season they have Shohei Ohtani, and with Mike Trout returning from injury before the postseason, it’s now or never for this ballclub. Bet the Angels on the moneyline in Lucas Giolito’s home debut in Anaheim tonight; they are now the betting favorite for a reason.
