Houston Astros vs. Baltimore Orioles Prediction
The O’s will have a great opportunity to avenge last night’s blown save tonight. Cristian Javier is taking the mound for Houston in Baltimore tonight. Javier was one of the best starting pitchers in baseball last season, but it’s been a much different story in 2023. The 26-year-old righty has lost command of his pitch mix, recording thirteen walks over his last four starts.
Cristian Javier won’t be the only starter who’s going to struggle tonight. The Orioles just added Jack Flaherty to their starting rotation before the trade deadline, and he dealt in his first start for Baltimore. I’m willing to bet that Flaherty takes a step back tonight in his first home start with the O’s. This Houston lineup is finally healthy, and performing like it. They are looking to keep pace with the first-place Rangers, who haven’t lost a game yet in August. This Houston offense isn’t taking their foot off the gas anytime soon.
Baltimore and Houston have two of the highest-rated offenses in baseball over the last ten games. That’s probably why we’re seeing the total move up from 9 to 9.5 with two “big name” arms on the mound. Let’s fade these two pitchers tonight, and back two of the best offenses in baseball to replicate their performance from last night.
Camden Yards is rated as one of the most hitter-friendly ballparks in baseball tonight, per @BallparkPal. Jack Flaherty may have impressed in his debut with the O’s last week, but he is facing a much tougher assignment tonight. Expect a similar game script to last night’s high-scoring affair.
Cristian Javier simply isn’t the same pitcher he was in 2022. The Orioles should thrive against the struggling righty at home tonight, but they won’t be the only offense producing in this heavyweight matchup. Bet the over and enjoy the show; this bet might cash before both teams make the call to their bullpens.
