This is definitely a strange one. Xzavion Curry isn’t a guy we have bet on once this year and this is just his fifth start this season. He is typically a bullpen arm, but today he gets the nod to open this game up and set the tone.
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Cleveland Guardians Prediction
On paper, this bet is tough to swallow. We are going against Tampa, and they’re at home where they thrive. The true thought behind this bet is the undeniable hit rate and the short leash I project him to be on. Curry hasn’t allowed six hits in a start this year. He has allowed it just once in a bullpen outing.
Curry has only thrown 60+ pitches twice on the year and will likely only go four or five innings at the most here. Tampa has definitely slowed down since their hot start to the season, they are still great, but this feels like an inflated number for a guy who might only throw 60 pitches; they would need a hit on him every ten pitches.
This is the bet where we have put the most faith in a manager pulling their guy, but they have no reason to extend a bullpen arm so late into this one. I feel like the public will be on Civale in his revenge game, so I’m going a different route here and hoping we end in the green. Let's roll y'all!
