MLB Picks Tonight: Expect Ronald Acuna Jr., Nolan Gorman and More to Shine

It's a new week, and what better way to start the week off than with a +207 hit parlay to boost the bankroll a bit? To be honest, I can't believe the odds on two of these guys getting a hit the way they are playing. The odds on this parlay are using FanDuel prices. Let's break it down.

MLB Picks Tonight - August 14 Hit Parlay

Leg One: Nolan Gorman to Record a Hit @ -180 (Click here to get the best odds for this game)

-180 for a guy like Gorman right now. This is simply disrespectful. I can see why the odds are this way, given that Gorman is hitting .241 in 2023, but this is a different situation. For starters, Nolan Gorman has a hit in six of his last eight games. The Cardinal's offense has been playing the best they have all season, and they have specifically thrived off lefties, and no one more than Gorman.

Gorman is 7th in the MLB with a .417 average off lefties in the last 30 days. That lines up with his season average, which is .286 off lefties and .233 off righties. Now you might be saying, "Wait. Isn't Gorman a lefty batter?" Yes, he is. He has reverse splits, batting better against lefties as a lefty batter. Guess who also has reverse splits? Athletics pitcher JP Sears, who is pitching to Gorman today. Sears is a lefty giving up just a .216 batting average to righties. However, he has really struggled against lefty batters, giving up a .318 average in 2023. Gorman should continue his dominance against lefties recently and get one off Sears.

Leg Two: Chas McCormick to Record a Hit @ -190 (Click here to get the best odds for this game)

Chas McCormick should be nicknamed "the lefty killer" because all he does against lefties is crush them. On top of that, FanDuel is dumb enough to give us -190 here. This could honestly be a straight bet at under -200 odds, and I may just do that as well.

While Gorman is 7th in batting average off lefties the last 30 days, McCormick is even better, hitting .444 off lefties the last 30 days, which is second in the MLB behind Ha-Seong Kim of the Padres. McCormick has pretty much thrived off lefties that last two seasons, ranking in the top 20 in batting average dating back to the start of last year against lefties. He is hitting .338 off lefties this year and just .255 off righties, drawing close to a full .1 better split based on which arm the pitcher throws with.

Chas had a cold spell to start August after a .351 average in July. However, he is now riding a four-game hit streak and is facing his favorite type of pitcher to hit off of. Chas is hitting the second-best on the team off lefties behind Kyle Tucker, and he should get a knock off Garrett, who has a 5.4 home ERA and is allowing a .271 average to righties this season.

Leg Three: Ronald Acuna Jr. to Record a Hit @ -340 (Click here to get the best odds for this game)

This seems more like it. -340 is a decent price to pay for a hit, but this is one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball right now, so I'm not surprised by the price. Acuna is third overall in 2023 with a .337 batting average, but he has been even better over the last 30 days. He is hitting .389 the last 30 days off right-handed pitchers, and with his speed, he can turn a routine grounder into a hit. Acuna is batting better against righties than lefties, averaging .345 against righties and .302 against lefties.

Acuna has been loving August. He is batting an insane .370 in August with 20 hits in 54 at-bats. He now has a hit in 9 of his last 12 games in August and he has more multi-hit games than single-hit games. With him batting leadoff and with his speed, you can't really pitch around him with power hitters Austin Riley and Matt Olson behind him. That being said, Acuna faces the right-handed Clarke Schmidt today, who has given up 51 hits in 49 innings on the road this season, and he now faces the most powerful and dynamic lineup in the league who are red hot. Acuna should get at least one hit tonight.
