Tonight the Rays trot out their ace in Tyler Glasnow who has been exceptional over his last few appearances. Glasnow comes in with a very impressive 3.15 ERA and has not allowed more than 3 earned runs in a start since June 20th. In his last seven starts, Glasnow has been extremely impressive as he has allowed one ER or fewer in five of those appearances while striking out 63 batters in just 43 1/3 innings. This success has also come against some stiff competition as he faced the Braves, Orioles, Marlins, Mariners, and Yankees.

The most impressive thing about Glasnow’s recent success is how deep he has been going into games. He has tallied 3 straight starts with at least 7 innings which is huge because Glasnow is a strikeout pitcher who has a tendency to get his pitch count up early which has limited his ability to go deep into games in prior seasons.
Tonight he will face San Francisco who has been struggling with the bats a bit over their last few games. The Giants come into this home series off a series finale win over Texas yesterday but they had lost 4 games in a row prior to that win and have only averaged 2.6 runs per game during that time period. The Giants are also a team who has a lot of swings and miss as they are very strikeout prone. Dane Dunning struck out 10+ batters yesterday against this Giants lineup and he is not even known to be a high strikeout pitcher.
The Rays are dealing with a bit of controversy at the moment as well as there are speculations that their star shortstop, Wander Franco, had inappropriate relations with a minor so he will be absent from this game which is a blow to their offensive production but Tampa Bay should be able to pick up the slack just fine as they have all season.
