Miami Marlins vs. Houston Astros Prediction
Verlander has pitched well since rejoining the Houston Astros, allowing five earned runs across 13 innings of work. He will face off with a Miami offense today that has the fifth lowest wRC+ (89) versus right-handed pitchers over the last month, and I expect him to deliver another solid outing.
Jesus Luzardo will take the mound for the Miami Marlins, who has hit a bit of a rough patch after delivering decent results to start the year. In his last three starts, Luzardo has allowed at least four runs in each of them and is currently sitting at an 11.42 ERA for the month of August.
The Astros have had mixed results as of late, going 12-8 over their last 20 games, but the reining champs are still right in the thick of the AL West title race. They have been one of the best teams against left-handed pitching all season long, ranking in the top five in almost every major category, and should have success today against Luzardo.
