Well, one of these squads broke my heart with a wager last night, so naturally, I am going to bet on their game again today. The New York Mets are playing their game in Busch Stadium tonight in the opening game of this three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. New York Mets Prediction
Anyone with a brain for the game that pays attention to the league would tell you both of these squads have performed uber poorly this season and are massively under exceeding expectations. The Mets are 55-66 and dealt off a pair of aces (literally) in Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer at the deadline because the playoff picture is looking bleak.
On the flip side, St. Louis is well known for having nearly always been a successful team to make the playoffs and win more games than they lose, plain and simple, but that is not the case. Despite an excellent lineup, things did not click in time for the squad this year, and at 54-67, they are just trying to battle back to .500 and call that a win on the season at this point.
With all that said, they still can hit, and both of these starting pitchers can easily run into trouble tonight. Adam Wainwright is one of my favorite strike throwers to ever step on a mound, but it has been painful to watch this year. Two years ago, at age 39, he had that massive resurgence with a spectacular season and seemed to have a few good seasons left in the tank, but he has been unable to stay healthy. The velocity is gone, and teams have just been lighting him up. They will keep sending him out with a lost season just two wins away from win 200 on the career, but I don't see him keeping the Mets off the board.
That means to win, the guys have to hit, and they know that. They scored 36 runs over their previous six games before getting skunked last night, and I like the bats to bounce back.
