Clayton Kershaw is making his third start since returning from injury, and I’m expecting a higher pitch count tonight after being limited to 67 and 71 pitches in his last two outings.

Cleveland Guardians vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Prediction

Kershaw is in the 74th percentile for strikeouts this season, and he’s recorded at least 5K in 12 out of 14 starts he’s thrown 80+ pitches. That’s where I’m expecting him to be tonight.

The Cleveland Guardians haven’t been a team to target for strikeouts this season, but with their current lineup, that has changed. Ramon Laureano (31.1%), Eric Haase (32.4%), Gabriel Arias (43%), and Brayan Ricchio (45.5%) all have K rates of over 30% against left-handed pitching.

Cleveland’s lineup also features 8/9 right-handed batters, which is beneficial for Kershaw, considering he has a 29.1% strikeout percentage against right-handed hitters compared to a 14.5% strikeout percentage against left-handed hitters.
