Philadelphia Phillies vs. Los Angeles Angels Prediction: Can Taijuan Walker Lead Phillies to Victory?

Well, our first wager on the diamond tonight takes us to the City of Brotherly Love as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are in Philadelphia for a clash with the Phillies. These two squads are trending in completely opposite directions, and I am looking to capitalize on the momentum (or lack thereof) for both squads here tonight.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Los Angeles Angels Prediction

The Phillies are still 12.5 games back from the league-leading Atlanta Braves in their division but are well in the National League Wild Card conversation at 72-58 on the season thus far. The second-half push has been excellent, and they have kept the momentum rolling lately, going 7-3 across their last ten and coming off a weekend sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Tonight, Taijuan Walker has the ball for the Phillies, and I really like this spot for him. Walker is 6-2 with a 3.14 ERA at home this season but has also seen this Angels lineup before and is sporting an impressive track record so far. Current Angels hitters are slashing just .175/.233/.423 against him, and there are multiple guys in that lineup who really struggle against him.

On the flip side, Lucas Giolito has the ball for the Angels, and while he also has some decent history against these hitters, pitchers are streaky and ride with the momentum of their teams; right now, Gio has nothing. The Angels are 7-17 this month and have gone just 1-4 since acquiring him to try to help make a playoff push, something now appearing to be out of the picture. The Phillies have been mashing the last few weeks, and I like them in the series opener tonight.
