The Atlanta Braves are coasting to yet another NL East pennant. They are more than a dozen games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies; at this point, it doesn’t look like anyone is going to catch them. With the season coming to a close, the Atlanta Braves will be “fade-able” in certain spots, with the postseason already in sight. I’ve found one of those spots for tonight…

Colorado Rockies vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction
The Colorado Rockies are not only one of the worst teams in baseball, but they are probably the worst-run organization in baseball. This year is no different than the majority of years past; the Rockies are in the basement of the NL West.
Have you ever heard the old gambling expression “bet the number, not the team?” That expression holds true with the bet I am about to pitch…nearly every single bet is backing the Braves against the lowly Rockies tonight, yet the odds on the moneyline have moved twenty cents towards the Rockies. This reverse line movement is a great sign for Rockies backers.
I’m not going to sit here and try to convince you that Peter Lambert is a good major-league pitcher. What I will tell you is if you back the Rockies young arm tonight, you’ll be riding with a hot hand. Lambert pitched great against the Tampa Bay Rays last week and threw seven innings of one-run ball against the Chicago White Sox before that. He even had a quality start against the Dodgers in Los Angeles in early August. Although Atlanta has the starting pitching advantage with Charlie Morton on the bump, the gap is closer than the public thinks.
Don’t get me wrong, Charlie Morton is potentially a future Hall of Famer, and he’s coming off back-to-back gems against the New York Mets and Yankees. Morton allowed zero runs through thirteen innings, racking up 21 strikeouts. “Uncle Charlie” is locked in, but anyone who bets baseball knows that Morton’s recent success provides value on the opposing team.
With the public hammering Atlanta, I would’ve at least expected them to move to (-300) on the moneyline tonight. Intend, the Rockies now look a little short. I’m not saying you back them to win the game, but I do think there’s value on the Rockies early in this one.
Although the Braves’ bullpen isn’t very good, they are substantially better than whoever the Rockies pull out of their bullpen. Eliminate the bullpens in this one, and back the Rockies to keep this one close through the first five innings. Lambert isn’t as bad as the public thinks, and Morton is fade-able off debatably his best two starts of the season. Don’t be surprised if the Rockies catch the Braves sleeping as they coast into the playoffs.
