Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Milwaukee Brewers Best Bet: Can Corbin Carroll, DBacks Get to Corbin Burnes?

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Milwaukee Brewers best bet and prediction for Tuesday's first game of the Wild Card Series. Can the DBacks make this series interesting now that Brandon Woodruff is out? Krabs gives us his best bet.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Milwaukee Brewers Best Bet: Can Corbin Carroll, DBacks Get to Corbin Burnes?

The Brewers looked all set up to have a dominant three-man rotation for their Wildcard series. They were set to throw Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff and Freddy Peralta, a dominant rotation for any opponent. With Woodruff now out for the Wild Card Round, the Diamondbacks have new life in this series. I’m willing to bet they make this series interesting, not only against Wade Miley in a potential Game 3 but in tonight’s first game of the series as well.

Betting on Corbin Burnes to out-pitch Brandon Pfaadt and get Milwaukee a win seems like too easy of a narrative. Postseason baseball is unpredictable, with upsets and underdog stories every single year. There’s zero value on the Brewers today, even if you wanted to back them. Luckily, I wouldn’t recommend the Brewers in this spot anyway.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Milwaukee Brewers Prediction

Arizona has zero pressure in this series, especially tonight with their rookie on the mound. All the pressure is on the Brewers, and their previous Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes. The 28-year-old ace enters this game coming off three shutouts in his previous four outings. The Diamondbacks have seen Burnes a decent amount though, and they’ve had decent success. Marte and Walker have seen him ten/eleven times, with three hits each. The rest of the lineup as at least seen Burnes seven or eight times. Do you know how many at-bats the Brewers have against Pfaadt? They’ve never faced the rookie before…

A lot of bettors are assuming Arizona is conceding in the first game of this WC series by pitching Pfaadt in game one. I think they are trying to catch the heavy favorite sleeping at home in game one, with Pfaadt pitching some of his best games of the season in September. He’s thrown a shutout in two of his last three starts, and he looks much more comfortable on the mound. I don’t think the Diamondbacks have as much of a disadvantage with their starting pitcher as the public perceives.

Milwaukee has a significant advantage at the back end of their bullpen in this matchup. Let’s eliminate a potential blown save from the Diamondbacks, and back the road dog on the runline. Arizona has seen Burnes a few times, and the Brew Crew will be feeling out a rookie pitcher they’ve never seen. Don’t be surprised if the Snakes keep this game close.
