This won't be an easy matchup for Christian Javier. Javier allows a lot of hard contact with many fly balls and line drives. But when he's not allowing balls in play, he's getting a high rate of strikeouts. There's going to be a whole lot of both in this game. If Javier can get through five innings, I like his chances of earning five strikeouts. The right-hander has thrown 35.7% of strikeouts against his last 84 batters. He'll face a Rangers lineup that has struck out 21.5% of the time against righties in the previous 30 days. Three of those batters have struck out at least 29% of the time. Javier has enough targets to reach five strikeouts. While he might allow some long balls and runs, he'll also escape damage with strikeouts.

It's unclear how long Max Scherzer can pitch. However, if he weren't fully prepared and ready, the Rangers wouldn't start him in Game 3 of the ALCS, with a 2-0 lead. I don't think he'll be on a pitch count. And knowing Max, he'll likely try to stay in the game as long as possible. Scherzer doesn't have the best postseason stats. However, he's entering this game with nearly 28% of strikeouts this season. Like Javier, Scherzer might allow some long balls and runs. But Scherzer also has four batters striking out at least 23.3% of the time against righties over the last month. Scherzer has some targets, too, with the Astros striking out 21.9% of the time against righties. I'll take his Over, too.
