MLB Picks Today: Targeting Cleveland Guardians, Tigers in Saturday Night's Doubleheader Games

One of the most unique aspects of baseball is the infrequent doubleheader. I have a betting system I’ve been riding with for years betting these spots, and we are blessed with two doubleheaders on Saturday. Let’s dive right-in to my favorite plays…

MLB Picks Today

New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Guardians Game 2 Prediction

The Yankees won the first game of two matchups against the Guardians on their home field in a low-scoring battle. They burned some of their best bullpen arms to secure the first game, including their closer. I’d be shocked to see Holmes come out of the pen for the second time today considering his age and recent injury history…

It’s hard to beat a team twice in the same day, especially away from home. The Yankees’ lineup might be stacked, but if you look back at recent history you’ll see that regardless of either team’s talent, they tend to split the doubleheader. Without their best bullpen for game two, I don’t see the Yankees closing this one out successfully.

Triston McKenzie has shown flashes of being great in his young career. When he’s healthy, his electric arm can power him through any lineup, even the Yankees. He’s actually pitched well against New York in his career, and I’m expecting him to shine like he did in his last start against the White Sox when he dealt for 5.2 scoreless innings. Back McKenie and the Guardians to even today’s series up with a win.

Minnesota Twins vs. Detroit Tigers Game 2 Prediction

The Tigers had a chance to keep themselves in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, but Matt Vierling let a ground ball through his legs at third base to allow the bases to clear in extra innings. Luckily for Vierling and the Tigers, they will have a chance to make up for their earlier mistakes in tonight’s game.

Simeon Woods Richardson will be making his 2024 debut for the Twins. He was involved in the Jose Berrios trade a few years back, and one once regarded as a valued prospect. After struggling mightily with nearly a 10.00 ERA last season, Woods Richardson has “reworked his mechanics,” but I’m not buying it. I want to buy-into the highly motivated Tigers to avoid getting swept on their home field today.

Both teams will be without their closers for game two tonight. Lange pitched earlier for the Tigers in the first game and Jhoan Duran is still working back from an injury. It’s going to be all-hands-on-deck for both of these teams regarding their bullpens for the night game, but at least the Tigers will have relatively-reliable Matt Manning on the bump. He looked great in his first start of the season, allowing zero hits through nearly six innings of work.

Back the Tigers to avoid getting swept by Minnesota on their home field on Saturday. Their bats have been relatively cool over the last week or so, but I still believe in their young core and I like the angle of backing them after blowing the first game of the doubleheader.
