Tampa Bay Rays vs. Milwaukee Brewers Prop Pick

The prop I’m looking at in this game tonight is targeting Tyler Alexander, the Rays' left-handed starting pitcher. Alexander is a sixth-year pitcher in the MLB and spent his first five seasons in Detroit with the Tigers. In his first season with the Rays, he has been slightly underwhelming, sporting a 4.74 ERA across his first five appearances. However, that ERA is slightly inflated by his first two appearances of the season, in which he gave up five earned runs across five innings to the Jays and followed that up with four earned runs in 4.1 innings against the Rockies. Since then, he’s only given up two earned runs over his previous 15.1 innings pitched. Tonight, he gets a very advantageous matchup against the Brewers lineup. The Brewers have been absolutely abysmal against left-handed pitching this season, and it does not appear to be improving for them. The Brewers have been even worse than notably bad teams like the A’s, Marlins, and White Sox against left-handed pitching.

They are batting a league-low .179 against left-handed pitching with just a .582 OPS. They are also second in the MLB with a 28.2% strikeout rate against left-handed pitching. Over the last 14 days, they are hitting .182 against lefties with a 28.4% strikeout rate. Tyler Alexander has a line of 4.5 strikeouts tonight with good plus money on the over at +130. This is a line that Alexander has failed to hit yet this season, but tonight could easily be his first time surpassing four strikeouts this year. Alexander averaged one strikeout per inning last season, meaning he would need to go five innings tonight to maintain this average and hit five strikeouts. That should be easily doable against the Brewers lineup that has been the worst in the MLB against left-handed pitching and failed to even score one run yesterday. The Brewers bats are cold right now, and this is a very good matchup for Tyler Alexander on the mound. This is solid value for him to hit five strikeouts for the first time this season.
