Welcome to the daily hit parlay, brought to you by Calling Our Shot. We've lost two in a row. Didn't get much of a chance yesterday as one of our players didn't even play. But, Elly didn't get the job done so a loss is a loss. We pick ourselves back up and get a winner today!
WEDNESDAY'S HIT PARLAY
LEG 1: CHRISTIAN WALKER (ARI) TO RECORD A HIT
Our first leg of the hit parlay: Christian Walker. Walker and the Diamondbacks are on the road again facing the Reds. While I like Walker for 2+ bases too, all we need is 1 here.
Walker doesn't have a ton of history against Graham Aschraft, but in limited history, he's 0 for 5. On one hand, you could say "that's not great". On the other hand, you could say "he's due". Walker hits all of the pitches Ashcraft throws, very well.
Ashcraft primarily throws cutters, sliders and sinkers. Walker hasn't seen many cutters this year, 17 to be exact. Not a huge sample size. Last year, he hit .295 against cutters though. This year, he's seeing a lot of sliders and sinkers, two pitches he's destroying batting .308 and .318 against. I trust he gets his first hit off of Ashcraft today.
LEG 2: JOSE ALTUVE (HOU) TO RECORD A HIT
Our second leg of the hit parlay: Jose Altuve. Altuve and the Astros face off against Carlos Rodon and the Yankees. Yesterday, it felt like I backed Jose as he went hitless...that won't happen again. Here's why:
Altuve has yet to have back to back hitless games. In addition to that, Altuve has great splits against Rodon. Altuve is batting .296 in 30 PAs against Carlos Rodon. Batting leadoff for the Astros and with a guaranteed nine innings of at-bats, Altuve is in a prime spot to deliver a hit for us today! Altuve is always a thrown in the Yankees side...there's no way he doesn't show up in Yankee Stadium back to back nights. He might just hit a homer tonight.
