As we approach one-third the way through the MLB season, the Mariners sit atop the AL West standings. Both the Rangers and Astros have disappointed to start the year, but there’s still a lot of season left. In the first game of this AL West division battle in Seattle, which starting pitcher will shine in Monday night’s late-night matchup?

HOUSTON ASTROS VS. SEATTLE MARINERS PREDICTION
It hasn’t been the greatest of months for either starting pitcher in the first game of tonight’s series between the Astros and Mariners. Framber Valdez just got rocked for ten hits and eight runs in his last start, and Bryce Miller has given up a combined ten runs in his last two starts. Luckily for these two struggling starters, I’m predicting a much better outcome for them both on Monday night…
The Astros are coming off multiple games scoring 5+ runs in their last series against the Athletics. The Mariners just dropped a nine-spot on the Nationals in the final game of their series over the weekend. Considering how much both of the starting pitchers for tonight’s matchup have been struggling, the over in this game tonight looks like one of the easiest plays on the board. That’s probably why more than 70% of the bets (on VSIN) are currently backing the over in this game. Unfortunately for over bettors, the over hitting in this game would be too easy…
T-Mobile Park in Seattle has produced countless unders over the years. It is sneakily become one of the best “pitchers parks” in baseball. You rarely see high scoring games compared to the majority of ballparks, and I think that will benefit both starting pitchers on Monday. If we were going to see offensive outbursts from either team like we did in each of their previous series, the total would probably be higher or at least on the move with all the bets on the over.
It’s a great sign for under bettors seeing all these bets come-in on the over and the total holding firm at o/u 7.5. Back both of these starters to bounce back after brutal recent outings; we can already trust both of these solid bullpens to finish the job. Fade these offenses coming off solid showings… if they were going to show up in the first game of this AL West series, the total would be higher.
