I’ve learned over the years that betting on MLB teams to end their losing streak (or fading teams on winning streaks) doesn’t work. When teams are hot, you back them, and when teams are cold, you fade them. Instead of getting too cute and taking the Athletics to break out of their slump with a moneyline wager, I’ve got another way we can back them against Alec Marsh on Tuesday.
Alec Marsh is coming off throwing nearly a no-hitter against the Yankees in his last outing. Let’s not forget how his starts looked before that gem, though. The wheels were falling off the wagon for Marsh, as he gave up at least four earned runs in the three games prior to his masterclass against the Yankees. I’m willing to bet we see the Marsh from those three poor starts tonight, opposed to the one we saw against New York recently.
Luckily for the Royals, Oakland won’t be the only team scoring runs on Tuesday night. The total is on the rise from 7.5 to 8 on most books, a great sign for runs. I thought the total moving up after the Royals just scored zero runs in their last game with Marsh coming off the best start of his career was interesting. It makes me like this over more and more…
Oakland might be a pitchers ballpark, but the A’s offense has performed better at home this season. I’m expecting a highly-motivated A’s lineup to show up looking to end their losing streak with some big innings on Tuesday. It helps that they will be facing a very hittable starter coming off the best outing of the season, too. Fade Marsh and back both offenses to show up on Tuesday; I’ll meet you at the cash counter when the over cashed before the seventh inning stretch.
