Milwaukee Brewers vs. Colorado Rockies Prediction: Can Austin Gomber, Rockies Challenge Brewers?

With only three MLB games today, finding winners isn’t the easiest task. Let’s take a trip to a game that I typically wouldn’t bet, but there’s an angle I’m willing the lean into on tonight’s short slate…

BREWERS VS. ROCKIES DATE, TIME, AND WHERE TO WATCH

MILWAUKEE BREWERS VS. COLORADO ROCKIES Prediction

The Rockies were on a losing streak before salvaging the last game of the series against the White Sox. They just got embarrassed by a team who many consider to be the worst in baseball. After losing that series in Chicago, the Rockies are heading back home for the first game of a new series against the Brewers on Monday.

Bryse Wilson was initially slated to start on Monday for the Brewers, but they will be rolling with an opener for the first inning. Wilson typically pitches better when there’s an opener, but tonight’s “starter” for Milwaukee is a lefty. The Rockies hit left-handers much better than right-handers, which will give them an advantage in the first inning of this game. I’m expecting the Rockies to capitalize on facing a lefty for the first frame of this game, especially one who hasn’t pitched in the majors yet this season.

Rob Zastryzny struggled in the bullpen last season, owning a 4.79 ERA in over 20 innings of work. I’m willing to bet the Rockies tag him up for a run or two early on in this game, giving themselves an early lead against one of baseball’s best teams. We then have to trust Austin Gomber, who’s struggled immensely of late, to limit Milwaukee’s offensive production. Luckily for him, the Brewers don’t love facing lefties.

If the Brewers have one flaw halfway through the season, it’s facing left-handed pitching. With the odds on the total on the move towards the under, that makes me feel more confident in Gomber’s ability to limit the Brewers offensive success on Monday. If the total was moving up or any higher than the current 11.5 number, I would be worried. The fact that the Rockies are catching nearly 20 cents of steam on the moneyline and the odds on the total are shifting towards the under makes me feel better about backing Gomber and the Rockies in the first game of this series.

The Rockies are one of the worst teams in baseball, but even the worst teams still win three or four games out of 10. Coming off a series loss to the White Sox, I’m expecting the Rockies to come out with some added motivation after an embarrassing series loss. Back Colorado on the run line in the first game of this series; I’ll meet you at the cash counter after Gomber’s best start in weeks.
