Chicago White Sox vs. Miami Marlins Prediction
He followed up a six inning shutout against the Detroit Tigers with another six inning outing against the Colorado Rockies, allowing just two earned runs in that game. Today, he gets a very friendly matchup against a Miami offense that has been absolutely dreadful against right-handed pitching this season.
Over the last month, Miami ranks dead last in wRC+ (62), 28th in batting average (.210), and 28th in isolated power (.127). The batters in their lineup have shown very little patience at the plate as they average the 2nd fewest (3.69) pitches per plate appearance. That swing happy approach has led to a ton of quick outs which has allowed opposing starting pitchers to pitch deep into games.
When looking at opposing right-handed starting pitchers, nine of the last 10 to face the Marlins have successfully recorded 18 outs or more. The player prop I'm looking to today is the over on Drew Thorpe's pitching outs. We have seen the young pitcher go a full six innings (18 outs) in back-to-back starts, and today we just need him to record one out in the sixth in an extremely favorable matchup.
The White Sox have allowed his pitch count to reach the upper 90's multiple times this season, which should leave him plenty of room to record 16 outs and cash this play for us. The White Sox leaned on their bullpen pretty heavily yesterday, and can definitely hope for an extended outing from Thorpe tonight to open the series. Give me the over on Drew Thorpe's 15.5 pitching outs and let's cash another free play!
