The reason I agree with the +EV Tool and love this play is because of how well Ramos has been crushing left-handed pitching this year. Ramos will be up against Chris Sale tonight of the Braves, their excellent lefty starter. However, this is a nice matchup for Ramos, who is hitting .418 with a 1.330 OPS against left-handed pitching this year. Ramos has been hitting well overall with a .284, but he has been truly dominant against left-handed pitching. He has eight home runs in 79 at-bats against left-handed pitching this year. 20 of Ramos' 56 RBIs have come this season against left-handed pitching, despite the fact that he has nearly 1/4 of the at-bats against lefties.
Ramos usually hits in the third spot, which is a great spot to pick up RBIs. Although Sale is a tough arm to hit against, Ramos has been crushing the ball against lefties this year and should be able to hit one in tonight. The Giants lineup just saw Sale a little over a month ago and didn’t have much success against him, but having seen him recently, I think they will have a little more success at the plate tonight.
