It hasn’t been a great month for the Nationals, but they’ve made some changes of late that should benefit their offense. Unfortunately for Washington, oddsmakers clearly don’t believe they will pull off the upset tonight. The Phillies have moved from (-250) to (-285) on the moneyline, some serious respect for a team that’s struggled mightily in August. Mitchell Parker was great early-on this season for Washington, but he’s struggled as the season’s progressed. He is coming off three solid starts after a rough stretch in July, but the Phillies crush left-handed pitching. Their offense is one of the best in baseball when they play at their home ballpark, which they will be tonight. I like their chances of riding the momentum from last night’s victory into a favorable matchup against Parker and the Nats’ bullpen.
There are numerous reasons why I think plenty of runs will be scored in this game. Zack Wheeler’s struggles against the Nationals, Mitchell Parker’s second half struggles and the fact that the Phillies might have their confidence back after a big win last night are just a few of the factors that will lead to this game soaring over.
