The New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies will meet at Citizen Bank Park on Saturday afternoon for Game 1 of this highly-anticipated NLDS series.
These two franchises have played 1,081 head-to-head games. However, none of them have been in the postseason. The Phillies and Mets have been arch-rivals since their first meeting in 1962.
New York clinched a playoff berth in a thrilling win over the Atlanta Braves on the final day of the regular season. The Mets faced the NL Central Champion Milwaukee Brewers in the wildcard round.
In Game 1, New York used a five-run fifth inning to defeat the Brewers 8-4. Milwaukee stole Game 2 after the Mets took a 3-2 lead into the eighth inning but could not close the door.
In Game 3, the Brewers took a 2-0 lead to the top of the ninth inning. All-Star closer Devin Williams came out to try to get the save.
Francisco Lindor led the inning off with a walk, followed by a one-out single by Brandon Nimmo. Pete Alonso stepped to the plate with the game on the line and delivered the swing of his life. Alonso launched a three-run opposite-field home run, which would be the difference in the game.

New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction
Philly will look to defend its home field in the game. The Phillies' 95-67 record earned them their first NL East Championship since 2011.
This Phillies squad has reached the NLCS in back-to-back seasons and will attempt to make it again. Last year, the Phillies defeated the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS, but came up short in seven games in the NLCS against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
All-star Trea Turner has led the Phillies with a .295 batting average this year.
Kyle Schwarber led the squad with 38 home runs during the regular season.
Bryce Harper added a team-best 157 hits and 30 home runs.
Former Mets star Zack Wheeler will toe the rubber this afternoon. Wheeler went 16-7 with a 2.57 ERA, which ranked third in baseball.
New York will start Kodai Senga. Senga made one start this year on July 26th vs. the Braves, but has been injured throughout the rest of the season.
New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction
Today is a tough spot for the Mets on the road. This will be the Mets' sixth game over the last seven days.
After an emotional win and an emotional series, I expect the Mets to come out sluggish in Game 1.
Senga has pitched 5.1 innings all season, and is inserted in a tough spot in this hostile environment.
Wheeler has been one of the best pitchers in baseball and has dominated at home with an ERA of 2.31.
