April 2 Best MLB Strikeout Props

Ben Lively Under 3.5 Ks (-156) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds

The Guardians will give Ben Lively another start today. The veteran right-hander struck out only 15.8% of batters in his season debut last week. He also struck out only 18.8% of batters all of last season.

Meanwhile, he'll face a Padres lineup that has struck out only 18.5% of the time since last season against righties. The Padres only have one batter who has struck out more than 20% of the time against righties. That's catcher Martin Maldonado, but it's unclear if he'll even play since this is a day game.

Lively threw against 19 batters and just 67 pitches before exiting the last game with five innings under his belt. Expect the same time of performance from him against the Padres.

Clay Holmes Under 5.5 Ks (-160) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds

In his Mets debut, the former closer-turned-starter struck out four batters in 4.2 innings. Holmes only struck out 17.4% of batters faced in his new role with the Mets.

Ultimately, the Marlins have a lot of batters who whiff and strike out a lot. But Holmes only struck out 19.2% of lefties last season as a reliever.

That said, the Marlins should have five lefties in the lineup. Those five lefties have struck out 31.4% of the time. But since Holmes has added below 20% of strikeouts against lefties since last season, it's hard to imagine he'll take advantage.

Holmes couldn't even get through five innings in his first start. Even against the Marlins, it's highly unlikely that Holmes will throw past the sixth inning. I'll take the Under.

Zac Gallen Over 5.5 Ks (-120) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds

I know some people are worried about Zac Gallen. The Diamondbacks' ace pitched only four innings in his season debut, striking out four batters. He finished with a 9.00 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP.

It's one start. Look at the bigger picture. Last season, he struck out 25.1% of batters and held teams to a .139 ISO and woBA of .304 with only 8.7% of walks.

Gallen should get back to earning those numbers against the Yankees. The New York lineup has struck out 23.3% of the time dating back to last season against righties. Six batters in the projected lineup have struck out at least 23.3% of the time against righties.

Meanwhile, Gallen added an above-average strikeout rate against lefties and righties last season. Let's count on Gallen to add at least six strikeouts against New York.
