Mikolas was solid during his lone start this season, pitching 5.1 innings against the Los Angeles Angels to help St. Louis jump out to a 3-1 lead after the 5th inning. He gave up two hits, resulting in two earned runs, while recording three strikeouts and a pair of walked batters on 80 pitches.

St. Louis wound up blowing the lead against the Angels, failing to keep up with Los Angeles in extra innings to wind up losing 5-4 at home. Mikolas will look to bounce back in a tough matchup against Boston's bats, which were explosive in their previous matchup against the Cardinals on Friday.

The addition of Alex Bregman to the Red Sox lineup this offseason has already paid dividends. Bregman has 11 hits, tied for the team lead alongside Kristian Campbell and Wilyer Abreu, while also recording four RBIs, four runs, and a home run in 35 at bats.

The Cardinals bats will have an opportunity to prove themselves against an inexperienced minor league pitcher, Hunter Dobbins. Dobbins pitched 3.2 innings in AAA for Worcester, allowing three hits, all home runs, resulting in five earned runs.

St. Louis has been able to score during the first stretch of games played. The Cardinals have recorded 21 runs in their last two games played, however, this has only resulted in a 1-1 record. In seven games played this season, St. Louis has scored four or more runs in every outing.

Mikolas needs to provide solid pitching to aid the Cardinals' batters with some defense. He did well against the Angels in his only start this season, although both hits resulted in runs for Los Angeles.

In 2024, Mikolas dominated the Red Sox, allowing two hits and one earned run, en route to a 7-2 win at home. Boston's bats are intimidating based on recent performances, yet I'm willing to invest in the better pitcher with plenty of firepower within the Cardinals' lineup.
