April 12 Best MLB Bets
New York Mets vs. Athletics: Mets -1.5 (+125) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds
The New York Mets will send out David Peterson tonight. The lefty has already struck out 25.5% of batters this season while adding 53.8% of ground balls.
He's struggled a bit against righties. Yet, he's still added 50% of ground balls and has limited line drives to 22.7%. He'll likely improve against righties as the season progresses with those types of stats.
Meanwhile, he'll face an Athletics lineup with a lot of pop. However, the lineup also has a lot of impatient hitters. As a lineup, they've walked only 5% of the time against lefties this season. Ultimately, walking righties has been an issue for Peterson. If he corrects that, I'd expect big things from him against the Athletics.
On the other hand, it'll likely be J.T. Ginn getting the start for the Athletics. It'd be his first start of the season. Ginn allowed 26.5% of line drives to 141 batters last year and only struck out 20.6% of batters. He's got promising stuff but it likely won't work out for him against a lethal Mets lineup that scored seven runs last night.
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Cincinnati Reds: Under 4 F5 (+120) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds
The Pirates will roll with Andrew Heaney tonight. The lefty has already struck out 25.5% of batters with just 4.3% of walks. He's also limited teams to a .089 ISO and wOBA of .231.
That said, he'll battle a Reds projected lineup that has collectively hit a .113 ISO and wOBA of .187 against lefties this season. The Reds have five batters with a strikeout rate of at least 25% against lefties this season. They've also got five players who haven't even earned a walk against a lefty this season.
On the other hand, Andrew Abbott will make his season debut for the Reds. The lefty wasn't terrific last season but has shown the potential to be an ace in this league.
He'll battle a Pirates' projected lineup that has hit a .098 ISO and wOBA of .270 with 29.7% of strikeouts against lefties this season. Pittsburgh's offense looks just as bad as Cincinnati's. Take the under 4 in the first five innings.
Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins: Under 4 F5 (+100) Click here to see which sportsbook has the best odds
Here's another under in the first five innings.
The Nationals will pitch a right-handed veteran. Trevor Williams. He limited 261 batters to a .080 ISO and wOBA of .251 last season and has already held his first 45 batters to a .122 ISO this season.
Ultimately, he'll take on a Marlins lineup that has hit a .119 ISO and wOBA of .296 with nearly 30% of strikeouts against righties this season. The Marlins have also struggled to earn a high rate of walks against righties. Williams should cruise.
Meanwhile, the Marlins will send out Sandy Alcantara. He's one of the best pitchers in the game. Alcantara has limited his first 38 batters to a .118 ISO and wOBA of .232 with nearly 74% of ground balls induced. He'll want to keep walks down against lefties, but that's about the only blemish.
He'll take on a Nationals projected lineup that has hit a .136 ISO and wOBA of .306 with 22.7% of strikeouts and only 8.9% of walks. Alcantara should put on a show.
I'd expect another low-scoring game in this one.
