James Wood has been the only consistent hitter against left-handed pitching in the Washington Nationals' lineup this season.

Wood has drilled a .324 ISO and wOBA of .383 with 30.4% of fly balls and 73.9% of hard contact. Wood has even added a 21.7% barrel percentage against lefties this season.

Meanwhile, Cade Povich will get the start for the Orioles. The lefty thrower has given up a .262 ISO and wOBA of .464 to 89 batters this season. He's struggled against both sides of the plate, including against lefties. Povich has only struck out 14.3% of lefties this season and has allowed 45.5% of fly balls. He's also given up a .250 ISO.

Let's give Wood another chance tonight.

With a small slate, sometimes you've got to take chances.

The Los Angeles Angels will have just two lefties in the lineup against Pittsburgh's starter, Carmen Mlodzinski. Mlodzinski has held his first 36 righties to a .000 ISO, but his first 46 lefties have hit a .233 ISO with a woBA of .458.

Mlodzinski has also allowed 38.2% of line drives and has induced only 32.4% of ground balls against lefties this season.

Meanwhile, Nolan Schanuel has hit a .182 ISO and wOBA of .358 with only 15.3% of strikeouts. The lefty first baseman has also added 32.7% of line drives against right-handed pitching this season.

Let's see if Schanuel can launch a line drive over the fence against Mlodzinski tonight.

Jacob deGrom was better in his most recent start. But he's not off the hook yet. After all, deGrom has still allowed a .386 ISO and wOBA of .415 to his first 50 lefties this season. He's also allowed 45.7% of fly balls to those lefties and has added just 18% of strikeouts.

This isn't the same Jacob deGrom we're used to.

On the other hand, he'll battle Tyler Soderstrom, who has had one of the hottest starts to the season. The lefty first baseman has launched a .368 ISO and wOBA of .437 against righties this year. He's also struck out just 20.5% of the time and has hit 32.1% of fly balls. Soderstrom has also hit a team-leading 20.8% barrel percentage against righties and has used 56.6% of hard contact.

I'll test my luck with Soderstrom on this small slate tonight.
