The New York Yankees will battle the Baltimore Orioles in the final game of a three-game series tonight. The Orioles won Game 1, but the Yankees blasted an insane amount of home runs last night to even the series at one.

The Orioles were expected to be one of the best teams in the MLB this year. However, Baltimore failed to make significant additions to its starting rotation and is starting to feel it.

They're just 11-18 on the season and are currently dead last in the AL East standings. There's still plenty of baseball to be played, but things aren't looking so bright for the Orioles. After all, the Yankees earned a 15-3 win last night and exploded offensively against the Orioles' pitching staff.

That win for the Yankees pushed them to 18-12. They're still ahead in the AL East standings, but the Red Sox are currently just 1.5 games back from New York. A series win against an AL East opponent would be massive.

Yankees vs. Orioles Prediction

The Orioles will send out left-hander Cade Povich for tonight's game. He's 1-2 with a 5.04 ERA on the season. Meanwhile, he'll go up against veteran righty Carlos Carrasco. He's also got an ERA above 5 and has added just 17 strikeouts against his first 109 batters faced this season.

Carrasco allowed only three hits in five innings against the Toronto Blue Jays in his last start. However, he's still allowed a .242 ISO and wOBA of .356 this season. That said, he's struggled way more against right-handed hitters, allowing a .366 ISO and wOBA of .450.

Baltimore will likely have six lefties in the lineup. Those lefties have hit a .229 ISO and wOBA of .360 this season. However, they've also struck out more than 21% of the time. Carrasco hasn't added a high rate of strikeouts against either side of the plate, but has performed better against lefties this season.

On the other hand, Povich had his best start of the season against the Washington Nationals last time out. He went 6.2 innings and allowed one run on four hits, which lowered his ERA from 6.38 to 5.04.

Still, the Yankees have a lineup that will have seven righties in it. Povich is a left-handed pitcher who has allowed a .232 ISO and wOBA of .448 to his first 89 righties this season. Those righties have also hit 32.8% of line drives with 51.6% of hard contact against Povich.

In addition, Povich has only struck out 20.2% of righties. The Yankees' righties have added a .205 ISO and wOBA of .393 against left-handed pitching in this projected lineup. Paul Goldschmidt, Aaron Judge, and Anthony Volpe should lead the charge, as they've each hit left-handed pitching very well to begin the season.

Ultimately, Carrasco has a better matchup overall than Povich. Therefore, I'll side with the Yankees to get the series win tonight on the road in Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
