Trevor Story leads American League shortstops in home runs and RBIs. It might be difficult to believe, especially after Story batted .158 with a .432 OPS. For the season, the Red Sox shortstop is slashing .252/.292/.409 with 44 runs, 14 home runs, 53 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.
Story is on an eight-game hitting streak, batting .469 (15-for-32) with nine runs scored, four doubles, three home runs and 12 RBIs. Story has homered three times in the last six games. Over the last 30 days, Story is slashing .340/.364/.612 with 19 runs, seven doubles, seven home runs, 27 RBIs and five stolen bases.
Story has at least two total bases in six of the last eight games. This is a great spot for Story against Colorado left-hander Austin Gomber. Story has a 111 wRC+ against left-handers this season. Cristopher Sanchez has been getting better each season and has the best strikeout rate of his career at 26.2%. The Phillies’ left-hander has a 2.68 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and a 6.8% walk rate.
Sanchez has at least six strikeouts in nine of 17 starts. In more recent matchups, he has faced some tough matchups against teams that don’t strike out often, including the Blue Jays twice, Padres and Marlins. He also had 11 strikeouts against the Astros and nine against the Pirates.
Sanchez has a strikeout rate in the 75th percentile, a whiff rate in the 76th percentile and a chase rate in the 77th percentile. He has a whiff rate of at least 33.9% on two of his three pitches. He has pitched at least six innings in 11 starts.
