After hitting 37 home runs last season, Gunnar Henderson is far from that pace. He is slashing .280/.348/.455 with 49 runs, 11 home runs, 31 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 336 at-bats. Henderson is in the 92nd percentile of average exit velocity and hard hit rate.

Henderson started slowly and has been better each month. In June, he had a .326 average with a .902 OPS. In the last week before the All-Star break, Henderson had a 1.491 OPS.

Oneil Cruz didn’t win the Home Run derby but he put on a show and hit a ball 513 feet and hit 21 home runs in the first round. While Cruz strikes out often, when he makes contact, it’s usually extremely hard.

Cruz is in the 100th percentile of average exit velocity and barrel percentage, the 99th percentile of hard hit rate and 76th percentile of xSLG. Cruz has hit better at home with an .833 OPS and nine of his 16 home runs.

Cruz is at home and facing right-hander Jonathan Cannon. Cruz all but one of his home runs against right-handers with an .823 OPS. Cannon has struggled against left-handers. Lefties have an .844 OPS against Cannon, who has a 4.44 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. 

Cannon is in the 14th percentile of hard hit rate and 28th percentile of barrel rate. He has been worse on the road with a 4.97 ERA and eight home runs allowed in 50.2 innings. While Cruz has a 32.2% strikeout rate, Cannon only has a 17.8% strikeout rate. The White Sox bullpen has a 4.00 ERA and 1.36 WHIP.
