4 Minute ReadGuardians vs. Blue Jays Prediction: Can Kevin Gausman, Jays Pick Up Home Win on Saturday Afternoon?
The Blue Jays and Guardians are back at it Saturday afternoon in Toronto, with first pitch set for 3:00 p.m. ET. After Cleveland took the opener 8-6 on Friday night, Toronto now turns to Kevin Gausman to steady the series, while the Guardians counter with left-hander Joey Cantillo in a matchup that leans toward the home side on both form and reliability.
Toronto enters this game needing a cleaner start after Max Scherzer was knocked around in Game 1, but the Jays are in much better shape on the mound Saturday. Gausman has been one of the more dependable arms in the rotation early in 2026, while Cantillo is still trying to establish himself as a steady answer for Cleveland. That pitching edge is a big reason the Blue Jays are favored.

Dodgers vs. Blue Jays Prediction
Gausman has looked like the more trustworthy starter coming in. His 2026 line sits at 1-1 with a 2.54 ERA and 35 strikeouts, and he is coming off a strong outing against Arizona in which he allowed two runs over six innings in a 10-4 Toronto win. More broadly, Toronto starters had allowed two earned runs or fewer in 13 of 14 games since April 8 before this series, which reinforces the idea that Saturday’s spot is a much better setup for the Jays than Friday was.
Cantillo has had some encouraging moments, but this is still a tougher ask on the road against a lineup that just scored six in the opener despite losing. His early 2026 profile has been decent, with ESPN listing him at 1-0 with a 3.04 ERA entering a recent start, and FanGraphs’ April leaderboard also had him performing respectably among qualified pitchers. Still, he is not bringing the same established track record as Gausman, and Cleveland’s edge in Game 1 came more from the early offensive eruption than from dominant pitching.
Toronto’s offense also showed enough Friday to suggest a bounce-back is very live. The Jays got home runs from Jesús Sánchez and Kazuma Okamoto, plus a strong night from Andrés Giménez, and they had just exploded for 10 runs against Arizona a few days earlier. Against a less proven starter than Gausman is facing, this looks like a good spot for the Blue Jays to even the series.
