The Dodgers have won seven of their last eight games, and while the offense continues to get most of the headlines, the pitching has quietly been a major reason for their recent surge. Emmet Sheehan gets the ball for Los Angeles, and I think this matchup sets up perfectly for him.

Dodgers vs. Diamondbacks Prediction
The biggest issue for Sheehan this season has been the home run ball. He has allowed eight homers through nine starts, and most of the damage has come when opponents elevate and pull the baseball. Despite that flaw, the underlying profile remains extremely impressive. Sheehan owns a 27.2% strikeout rate, ranks among the league leaders in chase rate, and continues to show the type of swing-and-miss stuff that can dominate lineups when he’s locating.
The good news is Arizona isn’t built to exploit his biggest weakness.
While the Diamondbacks have remained a respectable offense, their power production has cooled considerably. Over the past two weeks, Arizona ranks near the middle of the league offensively but owns just a .138 isolated power mark. They make contact, but they haven’t been driving the baseball consistently, which is exactly the type of lineup Sheehan can navigate successfully.
Defensively, the Dodgers are also built to help their young starter.
Los Angeles ranks among the league’s best defensive teams, leading baseball in infield defense while also grading out as one of the top outfield units. If Arizona is going to put balls in play, they’re facing one of the worst possible defenses to do it against.
On the other side, Eduardo Rodriguez has been excellent this season with a sparkling 2.31 ERA. However, I think his numbers are masking some potential regression.
Opponents own a much stronger expected batting profile than the actual results suggest, and his walk rate remains a concern. Rodriguez has done a tremendous job limiting damage, but facing the Dodgers is a completely different challenge than most lineups.
Even when Los Angeles isn’t at its absolute best, this offense remains the most dangerous lineup in baseball. Over the last two weeks, the Dodgers have been the highest-scoring offense in the league, generating power at an elite level and constantly creating traffic on the bases.
Rodriguez may be able to limit some of the damage early, but asking him to navigate this lineup multiple times without mistakes is a tall task.
What ultimately pushes me toward the Dodgers run line is the overall gap between these teams right now.
Los Angeles enters this game playing excellent baseball, carrying momentum on both sides of the ball, while Arizona’s offense has cooled and doesn’t profile particularly well against a strikeout arm like Sheehan.

If Sheehan avoids the long ball, I think the Dodgers have a significant edge throughout the game and enough offensive firepower to create separation late.
