WNBA Finals Game 2: Connecticut Sun vs. Las Vegas Aces Odd Preview & Picks
Tipping off on Sunday, the 2022 WNBA Finals are now in full swing as the top-seeded Las Vegas Aces are taking on the upset-minded Connecticut Sun. Winning their side of the bracket with a five-game series win over the Chicago Sky, the Sun couldn’t quite keep the momentum in their game one performance on Sunday.
Like the semi-finals, however, the Sun has room to breathe with a five-game series on hand. Let’s take a closer look at their chances to even this one up and take the series back to Connecticut tied 1-1.

Connecticut Sun vs. Las Vegas Aces Preview
While the Sun ultimately fell short Sunday losing 64-67, they left a lot to build on following a defensive effort that held the Aces to their fewest points of the season. They also showed themselves that they could compete with the high-flying Aces, taking a 38-34 lead into the half before allowing 21 points in the third quarter they could never overcome.Â
In the second quarter, however, the Sun held this high-scoring Aces team to just nine points, their lowest scoring total this season. The Aces duo of A’ja Wilson and Chelsea Gray were too much for the Sun in the end, scoring a combined 45 points and 15 rebounds in the win.Â
For the Sun, their own star Alyssa Thomas needed help that never came, with the rest of the starting lineup scoring a combined 33 points on the night. Brionna Jones came off the bench to score 12 points, and will likely be in consideration to see even more time on Tuesday night in game two.Â
The Sun had their chances, however, as DeWanna Bonner had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer after tailing the entire fourth quarter. Even in the loss, the Sun continued to show improvement on both sides of the ball and have gotten better each round of these WNBA playoffs.
Connecticut Sun vs. Las Vegas Aces Prediction
Two of the top scoring teams this season both had putrid performances on Sunday night, and I think we see that change in a big way Tuesday in game two. If the game does turn into another defensively focused contest, the Sun will have the edge once again, as their scrappy brand of play will fit that narrative nicely.Â
As we saw in the last Aces’ last series, Wilson is turning into one of the most dominant players in this league as she became the first WNBA player to tally back-to-back 30+ point 10+ rebound games in the playoffs. The Sun has an elite player in their own right in Jonquel Jones, who can take a game over at will; something she is well overdue for in this postseason.Â
I like both players to have themselves a night and for this one to go over the total.Â
