Monday's NBA player prop pick of the day from handicapper John Hyslop comes to us from Game 5 of the 76ers vs. Raptors series. With Fred VanVleet out, who should we turn to? The answer is Pascal Siakam.
ANALYSIS

Monday NBA Player Prop Pick: It's Time to YOLO With Pascal Siakam

Do you know what's fun? Putting a bunch of +300-or-better tickets in your pocket and watching things play out. It's just the evolution of a gambler. When we first start out, we are constantly dropping -140 or higher plays since they are "sure things". It's only after posting a 54% win rate yet still being down cash that we realize we aren't as smart as we think we are. That's just how brains work. After that phase comes the -115 - +100 range phase where we actually make a little cash with the exception of drunk bets. We aren't depositing much in this phase and it becomes a bridge to the apex predator stage. This is the stage that most of us are in now. We won't get out of bed for anything under +300 for good reason. It's the only thing that gets us going anymore. Some people think it's sad but in reality, it's just the cycle of a gambler's life. Embrace it. It's why we play this game we play.

Why the hell not? We won't see Fred VanVleet tonight. He's hurt. Somebody is going to have to dish the rock tonight and I bet it's Pascal Siakam. There's absolutely no chance this team goes down without a fight tonight so there is that. I can measure heart with my eyeballs and this team passes the heart test. We can safely bet them.

When a guy goes down, some other guy has to take over his role. That's just how roles work. Well, VanVleet has a pretty big role and while I don't think Siakam will have the shoulder the whole thing, work in distribution can't be ruled out. We've seen VanVleet miss time before and when he has, Pascal Siakam has filled in nicely. After VanVleet went out the other night it was Siakam who recorded 13 potential assists. Had OG Anunoby made a few shots we'd be talking about Siakam finishing with more than the five he secured. (Not OG's fault as he was definitely tired from dropping at least 20 in every other game this series.)

One game that comes to mind when thinking about the time Fred VanVleet has missed is the game between the Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors back on April 7th. I like to call that game the last time Pascal Siakam recorded a triple-double (+1400 tonight nbd). Siakam was electric that night. Even though he dropped 37 points and grabbed 10 boards, he still found time to dish out 12 dimes (17 potentials). It was insane. All I a saying about tonight is, there is no way we should be getting +300 for eight dimes out of Siakam. I'd say a fair number would be +200.
