ANALYSIS

Miami Heat vs. Philadelphia 76ers Prediction: Will Joel Embiid Be the Difference on the Road in Game 5?

The Miami Heat went up 2-0 in the East Semifinals without Joel Embiid playing for the 76ers. Once he returned, the 76ers returned the favor, winning their first two games at home to even the series at two. In Game 4, Embiid dropped 24 points and earned 11 rebounds. But his presence allowed James Harden to get cooking, as he scored 31 points in the win.

Can the 76ers find a way on the road to gain the home-court advantage? Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Tuesday's game between the Miami Heat and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Miami Heat vs. Philadelphia 76ers Prediction

In Game 4, the Philadelphia 76ers shot 54.4% from the field and nailed 48.5% from downtown. After Game 3, I acknowledged that the 76ers likely won’t shoot at a better rate than in Game 3 but the 76ers did, to my surprise.

Philadelphia went 16-of-33 from deep and held Miami to 7-of-35 from long range. Anytime you can do that, you’re looking good. The Heat won the battle inside the paint, scoring 48 points to the 76ers’ 34 points but overall, the 76ers just out-shot Miami at home. The Heat gained 14 more shot attempts in this game and hit just one fewer foul shot than the 76ers.

These last two games of the series have come down to Philadelphia shooting at an extremely high rate. Maybe Embiid is opening up the offense a bit more and giving other players the chance to get open looks. After all, not a single player on the 76ers struggled shooting the ball in Game 4.

On the road, however, it would be very shocking to see the 76ers shoot over 50% from the field.

Meanwhile, Miami is usually known for its spot-up shooting. Instead, Max Strus went 2-for-5, Tyler Herro went 1-for-5, Kyle Lowry went 0-for-6 and Victor Oladipo went 1-for-5 from downtown in this game. Those guys will see shots fall at home.

The Heat have a bonafide scorer in Jimmy Butler who scored 40 points in 42 minutes against the 76ers in Game 4. He’s the only reason the Heat were in the game, to begin with. If Butler can get some help from shooters, the Heat will stick around with how well they’ve played defense at home this season.

I’ll ride with the home team in this Game 5 battle.
