Grizzlies vs. Nets Prediction

0.5u - Ja Morant Over 6.5 AST (-127) (Bet $63.50 to Collect $113.50)

We are putting our 4-0 start to the season on the line tonight. On this eight-game slate, there isn’t much to like, but this NBA prop stood out to me. It’s in the game with the second-highest total on the day and the game with the closest spread, as this game is essentially a pick'em. This game should, in theory, remain close, and we shouldn’t see Ja rest the whole 4th quarter as he did against Dallas in his last matchup.

Ja Morant is a gifted scorer, the guy just went for 49 PTS the other night. Defenses know that they have to limit him from attacking the basket and try to trap him, and allow players to beat them. Hopefully, Brooklyn uses this philosophy, and it creates plenty of potential assists for Ja. Speaking of potential assists, he is averaging 14 potential assists per game, so we just need half of those to translate. Dating back to last season, we have seen Ja hit this in 12 of his last 13 games. Brooklyn has allowed 9 assists to VanVleet, 11 assists to Siakam, and 6 to McCollum over their two games.

Some people may be hesitant about this prop due to the game-time decision tag to Dillon Brooks. I know Dillon Brooks doesn’t pass the ball, and he seems to be an assist killer during the eye check. Regardless of that, if you go over the data of Ja playing with and without Brooks, then you’d see there isn’t a dropoff when he plays or doesn’t. Ja last year played 12 games with Brooks and averaged 6.8 APG over 12 games. In the 45 games without him, he averaged 6.7 APG. The only noticeable difference is that he played 5 fewer minutes a game with him, but that’s due to blowouts which shouldn’t be a heavy concern tonight. Ja should end with 7 or 8 assists tonight in what should be the best game of the night. Let's roll!
