The idea of this one here is that I love the matchup but I’m scared of the blowout potential. Memphis is -13.5 point favorites here, so the likelihood of late-game resting is heavily increased. Taking this prop completely negates us from having to worry about that and we can strictly focus on the 1st quarter.
Ja averages over eight points per 1st quarter and usually plays 10-11 minutes of the period. Ja has faced San Antonio already this year and enjoyed a 10-point 1st quarter which is comfortably over the eight we need. Morant is such a gifted scorer and even with Bane back in the mold, we still see Ja play aggressively and get his looks.
San Antonio is a great team to target as they allow the 11th most points to point guards but more importantly, they allow the fourth most points in the paint. Ja is a natural slasher and should find himself in favorable matchups under the rim, where he will either finish or get himself to the line. We more than likely need four made buckets here because I’m not counting on Ja to hit two threes but I like this prop to hit for us and think Ja starts this game red hot. Let's roll!
