ANALYSIS

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Memphis Grizzlies Prediction, Pick Against the Spread, and Latest Odds

The Grizzlies make the overnight trip from Portland to Cleveland to take on the Cavaliers in the second leg of a back-to-back. The Grizzlies dropped their game against the Trailblazers last night, dropping their record to 1-4 over their past five. The Cavaliers are also coming off a loss, as they dropped their home game two nights ago against the Heat. Both teams are very close in overall record, as the Grizzlies enter this game 32-19, while the Cavs are one win behind at 31-22. Which team will bounce back tonight?

The Grizzlies were one of the hotter teams in the league in late December and early January, winning twelve games in a row. The last win of that streak was a 115-114 win over the Cavaliers at home, which was the only meeting between the two so far this season. The Grizzlies then went on to lose five in a row, all on the road. They then bounced back with a 112-100 win over the lowly Pacers, ending the losing streak. That brings us to last night when they lost to the Trailblazers. The Grizzlies shot horribly from three, ending 9/37 (24.3%) outside the perimeter.

The Grizzlies have been a fairly well-balanced team this season. They rank eighth in points per game while ranking tenth in points per game allowed. Where they have struggled is shooting outside the perimeter and from the line. The Grizzlies rank 25th in three-point percentage and 30th in free-throw percentage.

The Cavaliers got off to a hot start this season, going 25-14 to open the season. Since then, the Cavs have cooled off, but they have done well bouncing back after a loss this season. The Cavs are 7-1 off a loss, only losing back-to-back games one time. What the Cavs do best is their elite defense. They rank first overall in points allowed per game, and their 106.8 points allowed lowers even further to 105 at home.

The Grizzlies have a tough matchup tonight. They are traveling on a back-to-back to play the best defense in the NBA. Meanwhile, the Cavs have played excellent off a loss this season, and their lock-down defense should fare even better against the Grizzlies on no rest. The Cavs are 21-6 at home and 10-16 on the road. The Grizzlies have an even bigger split, going 21-4 at home and 11-15 on the road. The Grizzlies barely come out with a one-point win on their home court in the only meeting between these two this season. I'm on the Cavs to win and cover the spread in Cleveland tonight.
