We need Minnesota to get us 29 points in the first quarter. The Wolves average 30.2 points in the period and rank third in the NBA, only trailing the Nuggets and Warriors. Anthony Edwards usually plays 10-11 minutes in the first quarter and he keeps the pace nice and fast.
Minnesota has 29-plus points in the 1st quarter in 9 of their last 10 games including their last six games. Although they are 6.5-point underdogs in this game, I expect that to be because their defense cannot contain Kawhi, PG, and Westbrook as opposed to their offense getting shut down. With Westbrook starting for the Clippers, it should keep the pace high in this one in the 1st quarter.
In the two games Los Angeles has played with Westbrook starting at point guard, they have conceded 35 and 40 first-quarter points. All we need is 29 from the third-highest-scoring team to open games. This is also a TNT game so you know players will be eager to show out and we should see the stars shine in this one. I came really close to making this a 1.5u bet but we will play it safe and go with one unit. Let's roll!
