Memphis Grizzlies vs. Los Angeles Lakers Prediction: Look for Anthony Davis to Show Up for LA

The Los Angeles Lakers are at less than full strength yet again. But, they're only a half-game out of the 10th seed in the Western Conference. Their new-look roster will need to step up big in the absence of LeBron James tonight, and that starts with Anthony Davis.

The Los Angeles Lakers can't seem to stay healthy. After LeBron's foot injury on Sunday, the 2022-23 campaign will be the third consecutive season where both Lakers superstars miss at least 20 games.

However, LeBron's absence opens up plenty of value on AD's rebounding props, especially with the Lakeshow desperate to win as many games as possible in the King's absence. Davis is posting an incredible 12.4 rebounds per game this season. That's good for a career-high in terms of both the raw total and his rebounding on a per-minute basis. And, without LeBron on the floor this evening, the Lakers will rely on AD on the glass even more.

The former New Orleans Pelicans big man has grabbed at least 14 rebounds in 8 of 9 games without LeBron this season, averaging 15.9 RPG. In three games without LBJ earlier this month, Davis totaled 16, 16, and 20 rebounds. Despite being labeled "soft" by plenty of NBA fans lately, the former first-overall draft selection has crashed the glass with ferocity in James' absence. And, we can expect him to do that tonight in an excellent matchup against a fast-paced Memphis Grizzlies squad.

The Grizzlies play at the NBA's third-fastest pace, while the Lakers rank second in pace. This is perfect for us; more possessions = more rebound opportunities for AD. But, that's not all. Memphis has been without starting center Steven Adams for 13 games now, and they've been getting babied on the glass without him.

Here are some of the rebounding totals Memphis has conceded to opposing bigs since Adams' injury:

  • Draymond Green: 13 REB in 32 minutes
  • Rudy Gobert: 13 REB in 31 minutes
  • Drew Eubanks: 11 REB in 24 minutes
  • Evan Mobley: 14 REB in 33 minutes
  • Nikola Vucevic: 17 REB in 37 minutes
  • Robert Williams: 16 REB in 32 minutes
  • Walker Kessler: 14 REB in 33 minutes
  • Joel Embiid: 19 REB in 39 minutes
  • Nikola Jokic: 13 REB in 27 minutes

The Grizzlies are allowing the 3rd most rebounds to centers over their last 15 games and the most rebounds to centers over the last two weeks.

AD's averaging 13.0 RPG since returning from injury a month ago and should see a heavy workload tonight, as long as the Lakers keep this contest competitive. He's in an excellent spot against a banged-up Memphis frontline.
