This is an obvious pick, but it’s worth betting on, even though it should be a public favorite. Since Los Angeles will be missing LeBron and Davis tonight, Russell will be used as the No. 1 scorer. It’s likely his efficiency could suffer, but his volume will go up in this spot which should offset one another.
The matchup couldn’t be better; D'Angelo faces a Rockets team that allows the most points per game in the NBA to the point guard position. The last two times we saw Russell face Houston, he was in a Wolves uniform. However, he scored 30 and 23 points in back-to-back games in January.
This game has a close spread of three points, so we hope to see D-Lo get a heavy dosage of minutes here. In Russell’s last three games, he is averaging 17 FGA per game, and that was with Anthony Davis playing alongside him. With him gone and LeBron still sidelined, I don’t think it’s out of the question to project 20+ FGA. If that’s the case, asking for 23 points isn’t asking for him even to play efficiently. Just don’t start shooting like Ben Simmons. Let's stay hot and let's roll!
