The Los Angeles Lakers and the Memphis Grizzlies will clash for a much anticipated first-round matchup on Sunday afternoon. The Lakers come into this series feeling great about their recent play.
Memphis Grizzlies vs. Los Angeles Lakers Prediction
Los Angeles had the best record in the West since the all-star break, and despite not playing their best game, they did enough to get past the Minnesota Timberwolves and knock them off in the play-in round. Los Angeles knows that they can not play the way that they did in the play-in if they want to win this series. The Lakers are led by superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis, who will have to step up their play in this series if the Lakers want to pull off the upset.
Memphis turned in a great regular season, but there was a lot of off-court noise that surrounded this Grizzlies team. Superstar Ja Morant took a leave of absence a couple of months ago after off-the-court issues. This is a Grizzlies team that is young and plays with a lot of confidence. Memphis has made many enemy’s around the league, and there is no guy that has more enemies than Grizzlies shooting guard Dillon Brooks. You can expect Brooks to ruffle some feathers in this series. Despite being the number two seed in the West, Memphis comes into this series as just a -140 favorite.Â
I am going to take the Lakers to win this series at +120. Los Angeles has been the best team in the West over the last couple of months, and at the end of the day, this Lakers team is the better team in my eyes despite the seeding. I know people may have recency bias based on how they played vs. the Wolves, but I expect them to play much better in this series. Any time I can get LeBron James and Anthony Davis at plus money in a series against a young team who has not proven that they can win a big series. Memphis will also be without Steven Adams in this series which is a significant blow. I love the value here. Let’s cash this in!
