New York has completely controlled this series so far, and they have an opportunity to close things out tonight and advance to round two. Cleveland entered this series as a heavy favorite, but they have been extremely disappointing to this point. The two teams split in Cleveland, but it was all New York in the Garden.
The Knicks have been led by Jalen Brunson, who has been outstanding all season long for New York. Brunson inked a max contract with the Knicks in the off-season, and at the time of the contract, there was a lot of criticism. People questioned if Brunson was worth a max, and he has silenced every critic this year.
Cleveland has been led by the strong play of Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland this year, but Mitchell has struggled the last couple of games here in the playoffs. Mitchell shot just 5-18 in Game 4, scoring 11 points in the losing effort. Before that game, Mitchell scored just 22 points in a Game 3 loss. If the Cavs want to continue their season, they will need Mitchell to step up and deliver a big-time performance on their home floor. The Cavs enter play as a five-and-a-half-point favorite.
I am going to trust the favorite tonight and put my money on the Cavs -5. This is a desperation spot for the Cavs, and at home, I trust that they will come out with a sense of urgency and dominate this game tonight. I think that a lot of people out there are expecting the Cavs to roll over and die tonight.
My mindset is the complete opposite, and I feel as if they are due for a big-time performance. New York, meanwhile, will likely be a heavy public dog tonight due to their recent play, and we all know that I love to fade a heavy public dog! Let’s stay hot and cash in.
