Wednesday’s Cross-Sport Parlay: Building Around Golden State Warriors, Edmonton Oilers

The NBA and NHL postseasons continue tonight with four games across the two sports, and there are interesting bounce-back angles on two teams tonight looking to come from behind in their respective series' tonight at home. Those two teams are the Golden State Warriors and Edmonton Oilers, who are both significant favorites to win tonight. Combining the two to win tonight comes out to a nice line of +104, and I love getting plus money for the angle on both teams.

Wednesday’s Cross-Sport Parlay

Leg 1: NHL

First, the Oilers. In game three of this series, we saw four goalies play in one game for the first time this postseason. Laurent Brossoit was injured early in the game, allowing Adin Hill to come in and stop all 25 of his shots in a 5-1 win for the Knights. On the other hand, the Oilers had to pull Stuart Skinner after giving up four goals, which brought Jack Campbell onto the ice, who gave up one goal on ten shots faced.

Hill has now played two games in a row against the Oilers, as he came on in relief of Brossoit in game two after Brossoit gave up five goals. In Hill's only other start against the Oilers in his career earlier this season, he gave up four goals on 23 shots in a 3-4 overtime loss. I expect the Oilers to find more success tonight against Hill, as it can be difficult to face a goalie coming in off the bench when you expected to be up against a different goalie. The Oilers know what to expect against Hill now that he is starting in net for game four.

The main area I expect the Oilers to bounce back in is the man advantage. The Oilers went 0-2 on the power play last game, which is something I expect to change in game four. The Oilers had the most dominant power play in NHL history this season, and I do not expect them to get blanked on the man advantage in back-to-back games. The Oilers scored on five of nine power plays in the series' first two games. The Oilers were also five for nine on the power play against the Knights in the regular season, bringing their season total against the Knights to 10 of 20 on the power play, which is an unreal 50%.

The Oilers should have a solid bounce-back performance in Game 4. They have a significantly better power play than the Knights, and their experience against Hill may give them an edge. The Oilers have the best line in hockey right now with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, and you can not hold them to one goal in back-to-back games at home.

Leg 2: The NBA

The Warriors find themselves in a familiar situation, but the roles are reversed. The Warriors led LeBron James and the Cavaliers 3-1 in the NBA finals in 2016 and blew the lead, which was one of the biggest collapses in the history of the NBA. Now, the Warriors are down 1-3 to LeBron James and the Lakers, and they will look to get revenge and pull off their own 1-3 comeback. The nice part for the Warriors is that they get two games at home to try and pull it off, including tonight's game. The Warriors dropped both games on the road and now need to win three straight to try and move on and defend their title.

The Warriors are -320 on the moneyline tonight, so I'm not going out on a limb to say the Warriors win here, but they are a nice addition to the parlay. The angle is simple, the Warriors were a horrible road team this season, going 13-34 on the road, but they were one of the best teams at home in the league, going 36-10 in the Chase Center. That was one of the most egregious splits in the league, and they are now 3-2 at home in the playoffs and 2-4 on the road, so it has followed them into the postseason.

There are some valuable trends to back the Warriors here too. Since 2013, the Warriors are 15-2 on the moneyline coming off a road loss when they are home favorites in their next game. Teams that are down 1-3 in the NBA playoffs, are playing at home in Game 5, and are favorites are 16-2 since 2003.

I don't like using trends to make a bet, but when they line up with my thoughts and make sense (not like "The Warriors are 20-2 when Curry wears white shoes") for the situation, they can be useful. In this situation, the Warriors have performed very well in the splash bros era at home in the playoffs. This is a game the Warriors should win, and we get plus money when we combine the Oilers and Warriors to both win for +104 tonight.
