Philadelphia 76ers vs. Orlando Magic Player Prop Pick: Can Kelly Oubre Jr. Step Up Tonight?

The Orlando Magic host the Philadelphia Sixers in a big matchup in the Eastern Conference. The Sixers are currently third in the conference at 20-9, while the Magic are right behind them in fourth at 18-11. The Magic are a strong home team, holding an 11-3 record at home, and the Sixers are also without Joel Embiid in this matchup, so the Sixers will have to get some production elsewhere. I'm looking at Kelly Oubre Jr.

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Orlando Magic Prediction

Joel Embiid being out for this game is bad for the Sixers, obviously. The team is 0-4 without him on the court, and they're now facing a young and hungry Magic team that has impressed this season. However, in his absence, I like backing Kelly Oubre Jr. Oubre is a guard (a tall one at that), so it may not sound like it correlates, but the Sixers will have to do some shifting, so Oubre will get more playing time, and the high-volume shooting from Embiid will be dispersed to other players.

Oubre hasn't played in the other three games when Embiid was out, but he played against Miami last game when Embiid was out and he played 40 minutes. That was his highest minutes of the season, and it's not a coincidence.

Also, with Embiid out, other players will have to step up in the rebounding department. Oubre is listed as a guard, but he's a guard/forward hybrid, and he can use his size mismatches to get extra boards. He had 7 against Miami without Embiid.

Given the matchup, I like Oubre to shine since Orlando defends point guards and centers well. Oubre can have a sneaky good game here without the presence of Embiid. He had 25 points and 7 rebounds for 32 total points + rebounds against the Heat, and his line for tonight is 22.5. I'm not sure if he gets 40+ minutes again tonight, but his usage clearly took a jump with Embiid and Nicolas Batum out. Take Oubre to start his ninth game of the season and have another big night with the big man out for the Sixers.
